Zengeler Cleaners purchases new equipment and helps environment Established in 1857, A. W. Zengeler Cleaners is the oldest and largest dry cleaner in the Midwest. Owned and run by the fifth-generation of the same family that started the business, the company expresses the way they differentiate themselves in a competitive market through their slogan, “A Higher Standard in Fabric Care.” When Zengeler Cleaners decided it was time to replace the dry cleaning equipment at their headquarters location in Northbrook, Illinois, they wanted to redefine the state-of-the-art with the newest in cutting edge dry cleaning technology. Their key objective was to give each garment the gentlest yet most thorough clean possible while having virtually NO adverse impact on the environment. To meet the challenge, Zengeler turned to Washburn Machinery. Zengeler’s headquarters plant, serving 5 of their 7 store locations, now operates the most environmentally responsible dry cleaning equipment in use anywhere. Each of their new cleaning machines is a closed system that recaptures nearly every drop of organic cleaning solvent, using high-tech, dual-stage filtration to restore the solvent to perfect clarity and cleanliness. In addition, sophisticated computer controls allow them to sort and clean more precisely than ever before, ensuring that each type of garment receives optimal care. The result is clothes that look better and last longer, retaining their shape, color and finish. The equipment package purchased and installed by Washburn Machinery included (4) Union 95# hydrocarbon dry cleaning machines with Chiller Manufacturing water-cooling systems. This was a very complex project requiring the execution of an extremely stringent timeline designed so that there would be NO production downtime. In addition, converting to a new solvent required setting up a temporary cleaning room outside the existing processing room while the old equipment was dismantled and removed from the site. The project took six weeks from start to finish, and has been a complete success. Zengeler Cleaners is proud that their new equipment raises their “Higher Standard” bar even higher. DuPage County Convalescent CenterDuPage County Convalescent Center Partners with Washburn Machinery to Upgrade Laundry Facility Recently Washburn Machinery, Inc. helped the DuPage County Convalescent Center upgrade their laundry facility. By replacing existing Braun 400 lb. and 200 lb. split pocket washers with four new Milnor 165 lb. Open Pocket Staph - Guard Washers, the county moved into the modern age of laundry processing. The Milnor Open Pocket Staph-Guard Washers are built into the wall with soiled linen loading on one side and clean linen removal on the other. This prevents cross contamination between clean and soiled goods. To dry all this linen the county purchased four Milnor 190 lb. Steam Dryers with custom made outside air adapters and fire suppression systems. These state-of-the-art dryers feature stainless steel baskets with a heavy duty roller wheel drive system. To fold the hand towels, bath towels, bath blankets, and gowns coming out of the dryers the county invested in a Chicago Dryer Air Chicago Small Piece Folder. These pieces were previously folded by hand. The addition of the Air Chicago has increased productivity tremendously. Further, all the flatwork is now being fed into a Chicago Dryer SO-16 Steam Heated Ironer, giving it a clean crisp finish. Washburn Machinery also provided the county with two Energenics FRP-10 Lint Collectors and a 10 hp Ingersoll Rand Air Compressor. These lint collectors include fire controls, automatic blow-down, and variable frequency drive for safe efficient production. The air compressor comes with a 120 gallon tank and air dryer to provide clean compressed air to the entire laundry. DuPage County Convalescent Center facility managers will continue to rely on Washburn Machinery for technical support to maintain a cost efficient laundry operation for the county.
Elmhurst HospitalWashburn Installs New State-of-the-Art Laundry at Elmhurst Hospital Elmhurst Hospital recently partnered with Washburn Machinery, Inc. to build a new state-of-the-art off-site laundry facility. With assistance from Washburn's Vice President of Sales Mike Bagg, the hospital decided that in the long run it would be more cost effective to continue processing their own linens by investing in an automated Milnor Continuous Batch Washing (CBW) system. The hospital purchased from Washburn a new 8-module Milnor 150lb CBW system, one Milnor extraction press, and three 300 lb. Milnor dryers. This system is capable of washing and drying in excess of 3,000 lbs. per hour using less labor and a fraction of the energy and water that their existing laundry required. Additional equipment purchased included two 165 lb. Milnor staph-guard pass thru washers, one Milnor 60 lb. washer, two 190 lb. gas dryers, one Chicago Dryer Skyline Mini blanket folder and one Chicago Dryer Pik-Quick linen picker. As part of the project, Washburn rebuilt their existing Chicago Dryer folders and feeders and relocated them to the new laundry facility. Elmhurst Hospital is now able to process in 4 to 6 hours each day what took them over 12 hours to do in their old laundry.
